So far, only one candidate has filed papers with the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters to run in the November 2012 elections for a seat on the Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education.
Trustee Mark Good, a GUSD board member of eight years who previously said he was “leaning against” running for another term, stated Thursday he has had a change of heart.
After the Dispatch reported that six of the eight former candidates – who interviewed in December 2011 to replace former Trustee Francisco Dominguez – won’t be throwing their hats in the ring again, Good was surprised to hear the once robust pool of “new blood” is a lot smaller than he thought it would be.
“We’ve accomplished so much and the challenges are so great, I had to raise up my hand,” he resolved.
The Gilroy Unified School District will also be offering a workshop for those who are interested in running for the Gilroy Board of Education.
The workshop will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at district offices, located at 7810 Arroyo Circle in Gilroy.
Agenda topics will cover the role and responsibility of the school board, candidate eligibility, information on regular and other types of meetings that a GUSD trustee must attend, the expected time commitment, filing papers, campaigning and a Q&A session.
The deadline to file candidacy papers with the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters is Aug. 10.
Those interested in running for the GUSD School Board must file for candidacy through the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters by Aug. 10.
