The rain didn’t keep the Christopher High golf team from teeing up against Watsonville, and amid the wet conditions and with umbrellas in tow, the Cougars – led by medalist Peter Hilkene – bested the Wildcatz 215-237 on Tuesday.
The 215 team score is the lowest the Cougars have posted this season. Hilkene’s 2-over-par, 38 was the low round of the day and counted as the senior’s second medalist performance of the year. Tyson Hill was one stroke off Hilkene with a 39, Jaeshawn Hoenck recorded a 42, RJ Montez a 46, Steven Lerma carded a 50 and Kurt Johnson a 53.
• The rain did cause problems for Gilroy High baseball and softball. Both teams had their games canceled Tuesday. The Mustangs baseball team will try and play Wednesday against Santa Teresa, while the softball squad’s game against Mitty does not have a make up date.
