I’m calling to issue a complaint I have. I’m an employee at the
Gilroy (Premium) Outlets and over the weekend, parking was chaotic,
no organization whatsoever, the mall had employee parking, but
customers were parking in those areas. And even one section of the
Outlets there was a parking spot that mall security closed in
yellow tape to hold for another employee. How fair is that to other
employees?
Blocked parking on black friday

“I’m calling to issue a complaint I have. And even one section of the Outlets there was a parking spot that mall security closed in yellow tape to hold for another employee. How fair is that to other employees?

I know it is an employee nearby and I have seen their car there before and then get out of their car.

Now if the store employees were to reserve a spot in the same way that mall security did would the mall allow that? I don’t’ think so, so why is it OK for them to save the spot?

Does mall management know about this, were they informed, was it approved? I had to park at the old Wal-Mart parking lot when I got out of work at 10:30pm, the lot was pitch dark, no security was on patrol whatsoever in that area. As a matter of fact there was supposed to be extra security on that weekend, but I saw one security person Friday, no security Saturday and none on Sunday. What’s really going on? We have some kind of parking issue – it’s been that way for years. We need some kind of parking garage or something to solve the issue.”

Red Phone:

Black Friday was chaotic? Well, Red Phone thought it would be so it didn’t venture out, but for those of you who braved the crowds of eager shoppers at Gilroy Premium Outlets, supply and demand existed not just in bargain buys, but parking spaces also. Red Phone contacted Gilroy Outlets General Manager Jeannie Omel.

“Gilroy Premium Outlets is a popular shopping destination, especially during the holidays. Our own staff works diligently with the Gilroy Police Department during high traffic periods. The area marked with yellow tape to which your reader referred was an area sectioned off for a GPD mounted patrol horse trailer,” Omel said in an e-mail.

It is unfortunate that someone may have sneaked into that spot when it was not occupied by our city’s good officers, but, hey, it was a jungle out there. However, Omel assured Red Phone that the tape was for GPD, which patrols the outlet property only. Areas beyond that, such as the old Wal-Mart parking lot, are not in its jurisdiction.

Good caller, next time Red Phone suggests that you have a friend or family member drop you off to serve the masses on what the nation recognizes as the busiest shopping day of the year.

tree trimming needed, not tinsel

“The signs directing traffic onto northbound U.S. 101 by the IN-N-Out Burger are obscured by trees and it makes it really hard to read the signs. This causes people to change lanes at the last minute – creating traffic hazards.

I think the tree outta be trimmed down, probably removed. It’s huge and it completely blocks you from seeing the sign.”

Red Phone:

Thank you good caller for your alert to this issue. Red Phone contacted city engineer Don Dey. Dey replied in an e-mail that he has sent a request to the operations division to have the trees trimmed by IN-N-OUT Burger.

Once again thank you for being on the lookout for traffic safety, especially during the busy holiday travel season, and at a popular stop on the way for many traveling the 101.
