Staff Report

Gilroy – Whether it be a letter sent from a wife to her soldier husband heading into battle or a bullet-riddled helmet, locals will have the chance to share their memories and mementos of World War II at 2pm Feb. 18 at the Gilroy Senior Center as part of the fourth annual 2006 Silicon Valley Reads program.

Events are scheduled at libraries throughout Santa Clara County that coincide with the theme of the selected books. This year’s selections are “Souvenir” and “When the Emperor was Divine,” two novels that take us back to the Second World War.

Locally, the event will kick off at 2pm Saturday with a reading from Louise Steinman “Discovering My Father’s War: A Posthumous Collaboration,” at the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce at 7351 Rosanna St.

Also on Saturday, Steinman will sign and read from her book “Souvenir,” at Barnes & Noble in Gilroy located at 6825 Camino Arroyo.
