Hecker Pass remains closed until June 30
Gilroy – Travelers heading to and from Watsonville will have to take the long road for another week as Caltrans closes Highway 152 for repairs. The highway was closed Monday at Casserly Road in Santa Cruz County and Mt. Madonna at the county line with Santa Clara and will remain closed until Friday. Heavy winter rains caused damage to embankments as soil washed away in the storms. Crews will repair and reconstruct embankments with natural soil elements and grasses and reinforce the addition with plastic mesh. The repairs are estimated to cost $300,00.
Motorists traveling between Gilroy and Watsonville should use Highway 129 as an alternate route. Detour signs are posted along highways and local roads in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara and San Benito counties.
