Gilroy Glory 14U Team Wins Western World Series Qualifier
The Gilroy Glory 14U fastpitch softball team took first place at an NSA Western World Series Qualifier at the Salinas sports complex this past weekend.
The Glory plays next at a tournament in Fremont June 24 and 25.
Team members include: Alissa Castro, Seani Bay, Ashley Hernandez, Lindsay Holt, Danielle Kinoshita, Brenna O’Neill, Melanie Morelos, Amanda Poso, Liz Wallace, Julie Wallace, Michelle Sosa and Sarah Spindel.
Ellis Finishes Third in Walnut Creek
Pro golfer John Ellis, who graduation from Live Oak and attended Gavilan College, finished tied for third after the second round of the Spanos Tour Stead Motors Shootout at Boundary Oak Golf Course in Walnut Creek.
Ellis shot a 70 Tuesday and a 68 Wednesday. With a 6-under-par, he is one stroke behind leaders Brian Smock and Miles Maillet. The purse is $18,000 for first, $12,000 for second and $8,000 for third.
Four GHS Field Hockey Players Qualify for National Tournament
Last month, seven members of the Infinity Field Hockey Club and the Gilroy High field hockey team participated in a Futures regional qualifier tournament at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. Four players – Karlie Sandoval (under-19), Stephanie Glenn (under-19), Erin Magill (under-16) and Elise Ogle (under-14) – qualified to participate in the Futures national tournament, which will be held at the National Field Hockey Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va. June 29-July 5.
Sandoval and Glenn are repeat-qualifiers for the national tournament.
In 2005, Glenn made the Junior Olympic team and Sandoval participated on the Olympic Development team. To date, Ogle is the youngest Gilroy player to qualify for the national tournament.
All expenses – including tournament fees – are the responsibility of the individual athletes.
