After dropping its first match of the Delta College Classic Tournament on Friday, the Gavilan College women’s volleyball team made sure the rest of its weekend stay was more pleasant.

The Rams won three matches in a row to claim the consolation bracket championship for the third consecutive season, improving to 6-4 this season.

A straight-sets loss (12-25, 20-25, 8-25) to Feather River College didn’t knock the Rams too far off course. Gavilan followed the setback with a convincing three-set sweep of their own, defeating Shasta College 25-20, 25-21, 25-7.

That victory spawned another three-set win (25-17, 25-14, 25-12) over College of the Siskiyous to advance into the consolation final where the Rams outlasted Taft College (22-25, 25-16, 25-23, 16-25, 15-11) in a championship-caliber five-set thriller.

Gavilan hosts Sacramento City College, a rematch of last season’s Nor Cal regional first round encounter in which Sacramento City eliminated the Rams in four sets. First serve is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Gavilan.
