GILROY – Despite the pending sale of its management company, Gilroy Gardens, a city owned family theme park on Hecker Pass Highway, isn’t expected to see many changes, officials said Thursday.
Cedar Fair, which has a management agreement with Gilroy Gardens and Santa Clara amusement park California’s Great America, announced Monday its intent to sell Great America for $70 million to San Francisco-based JMA Ventures, LLC.
Todd Chapman, JMA’s CEO, said Thursday in a press release the company would “continue to rely on the talented and dedicated on-site management team at Gilroy Gardens to ensure that the park remains one of the area’s most popular family attractions.”
Barbara Granter, general manager of Gilroy Gardens confirmed the company’s plans to keep the status quo.
“The new owner’s intent is that nothing would change,” Granter said.
Gilroy Gardens and Great America often share promotional efforts, Granter said, including a single pass that allows visitors to access to both parks.
Gilroy Gardens and Great America have shared a management agreement for the past eight years, according to a press release.
Gilroy Gardens is a 501(c)3 organization run by a local volunteer board of directors. The sale of Great America to JMA does not affect the City of Gilroy’s ownership of Gilroy Gardens, the park’s 501(c)3 status, nor the board of directors’ role, according to a Gilroy Gardens press release.
