Don’t let short term revenue lure us into allowing a new, distracting technology into our environment. We get most of our input through our eyes—people are bombarded non-stop with visual distractions, especially advertising. We had to add yellow frames around stop lights to enhance visibility. I have personally found electronic billboards to be highly distracting and another cause of light pollution.
Once you allow one sign, there will be more to come. The property owner will get some revenue and the city may get some taxes and fees, but in a city of more than 50,000 people, that’s pennies per person.
Please vote no on the new billboard proposal.
