DEAR EDITOR:
Recently I read your article on the brave and valiant efforts of
the rescue efforts of Cal-Star, and while I salute the men and
women of CAL-STAR for their good work and will always support what
they do no matter what, there is also a grim dark side that hurts
their cause.

Recently, I suffered a serious illness and had to be taken from St. Louise Hospital to Valley Medical in San Jose for treatment. Later on when I got the bill for the 20-minute helicopter ride, I was very stunned to find out I was being charged $14,000 dollars! $14,000!!
I really see the need now for health care reform. I wish I was taken by ambulance instead. This kind of service was a joke on the taxpayers and anyone in their right mind. No one in their right mind should have to pay this kind of bill – whether you have insurance or not this is ridiculous and an outrage to the public in general.
No one should be ripped off like this, no matter how great the service. I’m sure there will be people who disagree with me but I don’t care. I don’t want to see the public cheated like this – no matter how great the service is!
