Gilroy’s historic season continues to get better even after the last snap.
The Monterey Bay League announced its All League teams for the Pacific and Gabilan divisions on Wednesday, with Gilroy getting heavily rewarded for its second place finish and appearance in the Division IV semi finals.
Christopher also had some standouts, with four players getting named to the second team on offense and defense.
Gilroy honors
For the Mustangs, three earned “big awards” led by Antonio Andrade being named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Victor Sanchez received the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman with running back Joseph Barnes earning the Most Outstanding Under-Classman award.
All three were also named to the First Team All League in their respective position.
For First Team offense for the Pacific Division, Jon Castro was named as First Team quarterback, Pierce was First Team receiver, Barnes and Richard Perez were First Team running backs and Sanchez was First Team offensive line.
Barnes ran for 1,546 yards and 22 touchdowns and was fifth in yardage in the Monterey Bay League as a whole (Gabilan included).
Castro threw for 734 yards and 12 touchdowns with Perez pulling down 216 of those yards and three touchdowns.
On defense, Spencer Soares was named First Team linebacker, Andrade was First Team defensive lineman and Christian Rodriguez was First Team
defensive back.
Gilroy also had three named to the Second Team, led by Eddie Vargas earning a spot as Second Team receiver. Brandon Zarate was named to the Second Team offensive line. Finally, Brandon Weiler was named to the Second Team defensive back.
Rounding out the list was five named to the Honorable Mention list with Jonathan Guerrero, Dylan Holler, Andrew Castro, Troy Perez and Gabriel Santos earning nods.
Christopher honors
Despite going 1-9 overall for the season, Christopher had four players recognized for their efforts on the field.
Tight end Jason Scirigione led things off for Christopher with a Second Team nod along with receiver Noah Liberatore and Cameron Garcia.
Liberatore also was named to the All League Sportsmanship Team.
On defense, Gianluca Vanni was named to the Second Team
defensive line.
