Dear Editor,

Saturday I attended what, I believe, is the finest football game I have ever seen played by Gilroy High. I have been attending these games for years with my children and my grandchildren playing.

These young men played to their max. Both sides went to the game to play football and accomplished that task. There were no unsportsman conduct penalties and no visible arguments between the players.

The stands were alive with excitement with the cheers coming not from the cheerleaders but the family and friends attending the game. I have never in all history with Gilroy High seen the fans react to the game like this one.

Right up to the last .5 second of the game everyone was still in the game and excited.

The fact that Gilroy lost was tragic to the players but not to the people attending the game. We certainly got what we came for to see our young men play a game that they and everyone else at Gilroy High should be proud of.

A loss, I don’t think so.

I believe that Pride is certainly what the Gilroy Mustang team of 2005 brought to this high school. What a team! Win or lose they played together and, offense or defense, I do not believe that this season could have happened without this group of kids bonding on the football field as the team that we are so proud of. Don’t honor or take to task any individual player. No “could have been, should have been, he did that, he didn’t do that” for these young men. These kids and this team do not need that, leave them alone with the pride they have in a job well done.

What a game!!!!! What a season!!!! What a TEAM!!!!!

Frances Rodriquez, Gilroy
