Let Elected Officials Run The City

The schedule for the bridge project is two-fold, explained City
Traffic Engineer Don Dey. Reason being is because it’s a fairly
complicated project.
Full Name Please

“I would like to call the Red Phone to let you guys know that I think when there are letters to the editor you should use their full name. Like Cynthia Taylor or Dennis Taylor, and not just C.L. Taylor. Because a lot of people make assumptions and I get a lot of people at my front counter asking if I’m C.L. Taylor.

So I don’t want anybody to be misled, I would really appreciate it if it could be a standard policy that they use their whole names. Because if they don’t want to use their own names they don’t deserve to have an article in the paper.”

Red Phone:

Hmmmm … Thanks for the comment good caller. There are numerous people who commonly use initials. An example would be the late Gilroy Unified School District Trustee T.J. Owens. So, it’s a leap to assume that the letter writers are trying to disguise their identity, and since there are so few who write in and just use their initials, the Red Phone respectfully declines the request.

But if C.L. Is reading out there and wouldn’t mind using his or her full name, please do so.

Bridge building

“I’m wondering when we’ll get the bridge that will connect the outlet malls on Arroyo Circle with the Camino Arroyo shops. It would not only be more convenient but it would help unload the Highway 101 traffic that wants to get off at 10th Street.”

Red Phone:

The schedule for the bridge project is two-fold, explained City Traffic Engineer Don Dey. Reason being is because it’s a fairly complicated project. Phase one will include improvements on Sixth Street which encompass traffic management, intersection improvements, curb extensions and improvements to street lighting to name a few; this construction will being in August.

Next is phase two, the actual bridge construction, slated to begin about March 2008.

“The tough thing about bridges is you’ve only got a small window of construction time which is June to the middle of October,” Dey said. “This is because of rain and water in the creek. What we are trying to do is some prep work to make sure that the bridge can be constructed during one season, because if you are unable to do that it delays the project a whole year.”

So caller stay tuned for updated coverage in the Dispatch for this project as our good city continues to grow.
