A man in his 40s was found Monday afternoon after he apparently committed suicide in one bay of a three-bay garage at an automotive business in north Morgan Hill.
An employee of the business, Morgan Hill Auto Imports, found the body when he opened the roll-up door to the bay at approximately 2 p.m. Paramedics and Morgan Hill police officers responded to the business at 19280 Monterey Road just north of Cochrane Road, and paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Officers cordoned off the entrance to the garage bay and the driveway to the business itself to protect the scene.
Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing said it was not clear how long the man had been in the bay.
“Obviously, we’re investigating at this point,” Swing said. “Our forensic person will be out to process the scene.”
Steve Marlboro, owner of Superior Automotive & Radiator Services, said his business and Morgan Hill Auto Imports have space in both of the buildings on the property at 19280 North Monterey Road. He said the end bay farthest from the road was used by Morgan Hill Auto Imports, while the other two bays closest to the road were used by his company.
Swing said the victim sublet the end bay and was self-employed, not an employee of the Morgan Hill Auto Imports. He apparently was an auto detailer.
Marlboro said he didn’t know the man, but felt bad for his family and for the employee who found him.
“It was a young guy (who found the body), I felt bad for him,” he said. “It’s just terrible that this would happen.”
