‘Baler Fall Sports Kick Off

The San Benito High School Fall Sports season will be kicking off August 7. The football team will meet at the football field with the varsity and junior varsity showing up at 6am with the freshman team to follow at 9am. The boys and girls cross country teams will meet at the track at 9am while the girls tennis team will meet at the high school courts. The girls golf team will meet at Ridgemark Golf Course at 4pm. At 8am the boys and girls water polo teams will meet at the school’s pool and the girls volleyball team will meet in Mattson Gym at 10am.

Get Out Your Running Shoes

Cross country begins Monday, August 7 at San Benito High School. Practices will begin at 9am and 3pm daily for the first week. Bring your running shoes and water, and meet at the school’s track. Come out and join one of the most successful teams at San Benito. No experience necessary.

Central Coast Adult League

The Central Coast Adult Baseball League is accepting signups for the fall league. Games are held in Hollister and Monterey.

Pitching Lessons

Live Oak’s pitching coach Erik Wagle is offering pitching lessons all summer to South County area youth.

Wagle’s pitching staffs consistently rank as some of the top in the CCS. Lessons will include arm rehab, drills, mound instruction and cool down and strengthening exercises. One-on-one, pair, group and team rates available.

Support Little League

Support Hollister Little League Discount Cards are available now. These cards are good for a whole year in San Benito, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. Money raised from the cards will help fund the completion of the league’s field construction project.

Golf

Golf for Gavilan Baseball

Gavilan College baseball supporters are hosting an annual golf tournament Oct. 14, at the Gilroy Golf Course. The tournament, which features a shotgun start, begins at noon. The day is topped off with a barbecue dinner. A baseball game pitting alumni against current players is scheduled Oct. 15 at the Rams baseball field.

The tournament is open to community members as well as alumni, players and boosters. Former players especially are encouraged to register.

Golf Challenge

The Annual ‘Baler Cheer Golf Challenge will be Aug. 18 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. The scramble-format challenge is $135 per person or $500 for a team of four. Dinner and a goodie bag are included. There will be a live auction immediately following the dinner, and people who are not playing in the tournament are invited to attend the auction.

Beatty Memorial Junior Tourney

The Beatty Memorial Junior will test the skills of the area’s junior golfers.This 2-day tournament is held both days at the Gilroy Golf Course,2695 Hecker Pass Hwy. Tuesday Aug. 8 and Wednesday, Aug. 9 Ages: 8-17 years old. Start time: 11am Registration fee: $30 for Gilroy residents, $35 for non- residents.

Volleyball

GHS Camp

This camp hosted is an all-skills camp for all levels for girls enter the 6th-12th grades. Your child will have fun learning the fundamentals of volleyball. The camp, run by University of Redlands coach Mari Burningham, will cover passing, setting, hitting, blocking, serve, serve receive, various rotations and games through out the camp. All camp proceeds will go directly to the Gilroy High School girls volleyball program. The fee is $155 for the camp. It runs Aug. 7-11 at the Gilroy High gym from 9am to 4pm. Youth Camp

Gavilan women’s volleyball coach Stephanie Pascucci will be leading a volleyball camp Aug. 11-13 from 1-4pm at Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill for ages 8-18. The camp provides an introduction to basic and fundamental skills like passing, setting, serving, hitting and defense.
