GILROY – Two violent incidents occurred over the weekend, possibly with gang ties.

Gilroy police arrested three suspects who they believe are responsible for a stabbing Saturday night at an Armand Court block party that left a screwdriver protruding from a victim’s leg.

The incident took place at 11 p.m. Saturday when a car-full of men were asked to leave a block party. A fight ensued, and one of the men in the car stabbed a 20-year-old male in the knee with a screwdriver, according to police. The men then fled the party in a vehicle, which police detained a short time later.

Three Gilroy adults: 19-year-old Jesus Jose Lopez of the 8300 block of Gaunt Avenue; 19-year-old Jose Luis Ramirez of the 300 block of Third Street; and 18-year-old Robert Palacios of the 800 block of El Cerrito Court are now being held in Santa Clara County jail on felony assault with a deadly weapon charges, said Gilroy Police Department Cpl. Kurt Ashley. Bail is set at $50,000; the suspects are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon.

The 20-year-old victim was treated and released from the hospital, Ashley said.

“Right now we are looking into possible gang involvement,” Ashley said. “But the case is still being investigated to find out exactly what instigated the assault.”

In another possible gang-related incident, a man was arrested after brandishing a gun Sunday evening in the parking lot of Chevy’s Fresh Mex Restaurant, 8440 Murray Ave.

Jacinto Ruelas of Gonzales was arrested at 8 p.m. on Sunday following a altercation where he allegedly pulled out a 9 mm hand gun, according to Ashley.

Ruelas was arrested for carrying the gun, which is a violation of his parole, Ashley said.
