Assemblymember hopefuls? Alejo progam open to youth

Applicants are now being accepted for the fourth annual Young Assemblymembers Program.
Assemblymember Luis A. Alejo, D-Salinas, invited the community to the four-week program that focuses on developing leadership skills and empowering high school students to become future community leaders, according to a press release.
Week one entails students participating in a two-day leadership development training, followed by community events and local facilities tours “where they will learn about important issues in our communities,” the release stated.
When completed, students will have a “comprehensive understanding of leadership development, the legislative process, community organizing, and professional etiquette,” according to a press release.
Students that complete the training and their projects will receive a special recognition certificate and a letter of recommendation from Alejo at a Young Assemblymembers Program Graduation Reception scheduled for Aug. 1, 2014.

Alejo represents the 30th District in the California State Assembly, which consists of the Salinas Valley, Monterey County, San Benito County, South Santa Clara County and the City of Watsonville in Santa Cruz County.
