Matt Penyacsek, Gilroy wrestling
Penyacsek took second at the Mid-California Classic wrestling tournament Saturday at Gilroy High. The Mustang wrestled in the 195-pound weight class, despite being 14 pounds underweight. His only loss was to Austin Flores of Clovis North in the finals. He pinned all others.Â

Alexi Slattery, Gilroy girls soccer
Slattery scored the lone goal for the Mustangs in their 1-0 win over Notre Dame Jan. 21 at Rabobank Stadium. She scored in the second half off an assist from Samantha Gonzalez. Slattery also drew a foul that set-up a goal for Agust Gomez in the team’s 1-1 tie with Salinas.
