‘The Ghost’ puts undefeated pro record on line June 8
GILROY – Gilroy-born Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero will step back in the ring June 8 for a nationally televised 10-round bout – scheduled to air Sunday at 6 p.m. on Fox Sports Net – when the top featherweight contender puts his undefeated record of 10-0 with three knockouts on the line.
Guerrero – who recorded a first-round knockout in his latest May 4 victory – will go up against former Mexican Champ Jose Luis Tula (15-7) in the semi-main event at the Texas Station in Las Vegas.
“He’s a real solid guy,” said manager Bob Santos of Tula. “He’s a real durable guy who’s only been stopped twice.”
In Tula’s last fight, he lost by decision to William Medalian, a top 10 ranked boxer in every major boxing organization. But Tula threatened for the upset knockout in the final round, according to Santos.
“He’s training in LA with his father and Joe Goossen, a Hall of Fame trainer. He’s really getting him prepared,” said Santos of Guerrero. “He’s out here sparring with the best fighters in the world.”
Guerrero was highlighted on Fox Sports Net commerical spots last Sunday for his upcoming fight – being tagged as a top young gun in boxing.
“Fox Sports Net is really starting to get behind him,” Santos said. “We’re starting to push him and move him up in the rankings.”
