One wouldn’t think that where they play the ball in their stance would effect the direction the ball goes. We have talked in the past that if the ball is too far back in your stance the ball will go very low and you will have a tendency to hit shots thin.

On the others side of the coin, if the ball is too far forward you may hit it high and fat. But how does ball position effect direction?

If the ball is too far back in the stance your shoulders now have to aim right (closed) when you address the ball. This will cause an exagerrated inside to outside swing plane and a ball that starts right and stays right or a big sweeping hook.

If the ball is too far forward then your shoulders will be aiming left of your target (open). This will cause a ball to start left and stay left or hit a slice. This is the cause for most of you who slice the ball. It starts that your ball position is too far forward thus causing the open shoulder position. Where your shoulders are aiming helps dictate the path the swing plane is going to take. Ball position helps determine your shoulder alignment.

So take a couple of extra seconds and make sure your shoulders are aiming at the target when the ball is in the proper position. The results will be shots that now start out at your target.
