GILROY – The Westside Grill Bandits outscored Don’s Vending Brakettes 9-3 in Gilroy Little League Girls Minors play last week, giving the Brakettes their first loss of the season.
Allison Ransom earned the win for the Bandits with an outstanding pitching performance, striking out 10 batters in four innings of work. Ransom received plenty of help from her teammates as well. Michaela Decker scored three runs, and Nicole Villanueva and Emily Boykin each scored two.
The Brakettes had an equally stellar effort on the mound despite taking the loss, as Maria Sandoval recorded 12 strikeouts. Angelica Reyes had two hits and scored two runs for the Brakettes, while hard-hit doubles were turned in by Cynthia DelReal and Fiona McFarland.
The defeat followed an exceptional streak of victories for the Brakettes, who beat Dr. Tommy Tong Force twice – 16-2 and 9-2 – after pinning down an 18-5 win over the Bandits a little more than a week before their most recent matchup.
Angelica Reyes struck out 12 players in the Brakettes’ first victory over the Force – who were undefeated to that point – while also hitting a triple and a home run. Maria Sandoval had two doubles and scored two runs, and Maddie Cox and Kaelyn Jackson also scored two runs. Sandoval recorded 10 strikeouts in four innings of work in the rematch against the Force, and doubles were turned in by Reyes, McFarland, Maddie Cox and Raegan Silviera.
Julia Chizanskos provided the only hit for the Force and scored a run in the first game against the Brakettes, while Shelby Valasco scored the other run. Sarah Weiby had the only Force hit in the second contest, and Chizanskos scored the team’s two runs.
Jel Reyes scored four runs and Cox hit two doubles while scoring three runs in the Brakettes’ 18-5 victory over the Bandits, who were led by Olivia Moore’s two walks and a run scored.
In Girls Majors action last week, Torres Construction and DS Builders Riptide rolled to a 20-13 win over the San Jose Superstars.
The Riptide were led by Alli Hathaway, who pitched a perfect three innings to start the game, allowing no runs and no hits. Salem Bitwoded provided two hits and Macey Mitchell scored three runs for the Riptide, and Sol Mendez continued her strong hitting by reaching base on a double.
