Cougars had the tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of
the seventh
The Christopher High baseball team had the tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t bring them home as the Cougars fell just shy of first-place Monterey 8-7 on Wednesday in Gilroy.
The loss is the Cougars (9-17 overall, 7-10 Monterey Bay League) second in a row after they strung together three consecutive victories last week. The Toreadors, who clinched the league championship last Wednesday, close the regular season with a spotless 18-0 league mark.
Patrick Valdez had three hits, including a triple, and a RBI for the Cougars. Nate Davis had a hit and two RBI, Brandon Pickens and Michael Pirnik each recorded a double and a RBI, Keven Willard also plated a run and both Nader Elaskary and Jose Chavez had a base hit.
The Cougars finish out the regular season against Monte Vista Christian at 4 p.m. on Friday at CHS.
