42-38 victory Tuesday night in San Jose.
SAN JOSE – A solid third quarter helped erase a slim three-point halftime deficit as the Gilroy High varsity boys basketball team settled into their season opener against Oak Grove and came away with a 42-38 victory Tuesday night in San Jose.

Senior Greg Hamik posted a team-high 12 points and also let loose five assists. Seniors Delapo Opere and Michael Hartman combined for 13 of the team’s 28 rebounds, snagging seven and six, respectively. First-year varsity player Andrel Gaines poured in eight points to go along with his two assists and three steals.

The Mustangs take on Watsonville on Thursday in the opening round of the 27th annual Aptos Seascape Classic.
