The Bay Area World Series is a high school showcase event pitting the very best sophomores and juniors in Northern California against each other in a six-region tournament. South Bay, Peninsula, Central Coast, North Bay, East Bay, and Central Valley make up the tournament field for the three day event at Santa Clara University. The event is heavily attended every year by college coaches and professional scouts.
Austin and Cummins both had a terrific showing at the event, helping lead the South Bay team to the BAWS Championship. Cummins had four hits in six bats, also gathering two walks while playing solid defense up the middle. Austin also collected four hits on the weekend and walked four times playing first base for the South squad. Blossom Valley Athletic League Coach of the Year Mark Cummins coached the South Bay team.
Jacob Dexter of Gilroy High School had a strong showing Friday night, pitching for the Central Coast against the South Bay. Dexter pitched two innings, striking out four batters while giving up two singles and one walk. Kevin Grove was injured Friday night while attempting to throw out a runner at home from the outfield and was unable to compete for the rest of the weekend.
