Benjamin C. Lopez Sr. passed away at home in Gilroy on June 18, 2003.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juana Lopez. Mr. Lopez is survived by his children and their spouses: Benjamin Jr. and Hortencia Lopez, Gloria and Hector Hernandez, Jess Sr. and Denise Lopez, Cesar and Sandra Lopez, Norina and Albert Merino, and Mike and Vicki Lopez, all of Gilroy. He is the grandfather of Benjamin Lopez, III., Cindy Silva, Rosie Carrasco, Hector Hernandez Jr., Isaac Hernandez, Jess Lopez Jr., Marco Lopez, Raquel Lopez, Christian Lopez, Cesar Lopez, Eric Lopez, Alexander Lopez, Margaret Ortiz, Angelina Barron, Gabriel Barron, Ruben Merino, Denise Lopez, Lisa Lopez, Mark Rivas and Cindy Rivas. He was the great grandfather of eight. Mr. Lopez was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Lopez and his granddaughter, Diana Lopez.
He was born in San Martin, Queretaro, Mexico 75 years ago. He came to South County 43 years ago. Mr. Lopez worked at Gilroy Foods for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, softball games and all his grandchildren’s sporting events. In 1988, Mr. Lopez received the Ray Heredia Softball Award. He had a great sense of humor and will be missed.
Vigil Service will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home. Viewing will begin on Friday at the funeral home at 1 p.m.
Services will begin on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the funeral home and then proceed to St. Marys Church for a Funeral Mass at 8:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery.
