DEAR EDITOR:

Beware of the pro-growth City Council candidates, they don’t seem to have our best interests at heart. “Economic Development” has become a phrase that describes the obliteration of our once rural community. When our citizens speak of our town they frequently brag about our small town quality of life, a life that the pro-growth advocates are robbing from us. I wonder how long before our quality of life fades completely.

The general theme seems to be that businesses generate tax revenues for the city. The problem is that no matter how much revenue is generated, it is never enough. The city keeps growing and the revenue never seems to catch up. It’s a never ending vicious circle that is robbing this once beautiful little town of it’s rural character.

If you doubt this, take a look around town and remember how it was before surrendering to “progress.” For example, was there a need for a monstrous $25 million police station a mere five or 10 years ago? Our streets have become clogged and our small town atmosphere is rapidly disappearing.

There’s hope! There are candidates who would choose to manage our town without destroying it. Please vote wisely.
