When a woman is faced with an unplanned pregnancy, she experiences a gamut of emotions ranging from excitement to fear and regret. Her support system may be fractured or non-existent, and it’s often up to her, and her alone, to determine if she wants to carry the baby to term, give it up for adoption or terminate the pregnancy.
Fifteen years ago, Cecilia Anaya fought cancer but lost the battle when she was just 11 years old. Throughout her journey, the girl and her family benefited greatly from Jacob’s Heart, a local organization that provides support services to cancer patients and their families.

Community members continued to rally around the Carroll family after the arrest of suspect David Quiroz Saturday who was arrested on murder charges in the disappearance of Heather Carroll, 25. An impromptu vigil was held at Dunne Park on Saturday and local residents have a fundraiser planned for Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Target parking lot on Airline Highway. The Wednesday event includes a bake sale and gift basket fundraiser that will benefit the Carroll family.
The new local nonprofit Everyone’s Child will host a fundraiser featuring live entertainment, a car show and vendor booths Oct. 20 to support their goal of creating a public art project depicting the likeness of Tara Romero, a 14-year-old Morgan Hill resident who was murdered in a drive-by shooting Nov. 4, 2011.
Sierra LaMar’s family and the returning volunteers continue to hold out hope that the missing 15-year-old will be found, and they think keeping the case in the public eye is the best way to preserve that hope.
