Sylvia Hamilton

The community of San Martin invites South County residents to a “Good ‘Ol Country Western BBQ” and fundraiser and celebration of Sylvia Hamilton’s life Saturday.

The event will feature live music performed by The Blue Sky Band, as well as two-step dance lessons by 14-time national champion and United Country Western Dance Council World Champion Richard Kear, who is also a San Martin resident.

A tri-tip or BBQ chicken dinner, and homemade desserts created by Dave Bozzo will be served.

Funds raised from ticket sales, as well as a 50/50 raffle and drawing will go toward the creation of a permanent memorial honoring Hamilton, who was known as “The Mayor” of San Martin.

Hamilton died Feb. 16 at the age of 70. Her many efforts over the years to advocate for her community to the powers that be earned her recognition as the 27th state assembly district Woman of the Year in 2004, and the San Martin Neighborhood Alliance’s Member of the Year in 2012.

The fundraiser will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. at the San Martin Lion’s Club, 12415 Murphy Ave.

Tickets for the event cost $20 each until March 19, and $25 each after March 19 and at the door.
