Hernandez, Silva, Ramirez, Dozal and Carrillo all homer in 16-7
nod over Fellas
GILROY – Craig Avila Bail Bonds bombed five home runs Tuesday to claim the second-half Men’s B League title with a 16-7 nod over the Good Fellas at Gavilan Sports Park.
Transferred from the familiar confines of Christmas Hill Park this week because of preparation for a city-wide event, the Bondsmen set a 2004 program mark with five round-trippers. Esco Hernandez, Ruben Ramirez, Marshall Silva, Leroy Dozal and Tomas Carrillo hit home runs, while Stevie Martinez went 5-for-5.
Craig Avila Bail Bonds is 5-0 for the half with a two-game lead over Team Talamo with one game to play. Craig Avila will play first-half winner Talamo in a best 2-of-3 series next month.
Cameron Bautista countered with a three-run home run and Gabe Duenas singled and tripled for the good Fellas, the first-half C champion.
Santos Garcia, Abel Jacquez and Henry Calderon hit consecutive singles in the bottom of the seventh inning to produce one run in a 9-8 Team Talamo victory over Salas Trucking.
Bobby Garcia homered and Jacquez went 4-for-4 for the winners. Brian Pacis went 3-for-3 and Jerry Ventura scored three runs for Salas Trucking.
The Playaz powered by Westwood Barbers 19-13 Tuesday to remain tied atop the Men’s C League standings at Las Animas Park.
Daniel DeLeon and George Salgado Jr. each homered for the 3-1 Playaz. Bobby Galvan provided a home run, triple and single. Gino Martinez homered and Raul Gracia socked three hits for the Barbers.
Obata Farms followed with a 17-12 win over Dee’z Nutz to improve to 3-1. Bob Wess and Mark Vodanovich garnered four hits each for the Farmers. Sean Subia went 4-for-5 and Steve Gonzalez scored three runs for Dee’z Nutz.
Punishment Inc. surprised the VFW Vets 17-10 behind a pair of Mike Leslie home runs. Joey Barnes and Joel Torres added three hits each to the Punishment cause. Sean Simmons homered and Toby Reyes clubbed three hits for the VFW Vets.
