Monterey – Daniel Shields scored four second-quarter goals Thursday and Gilroy downed Palma 10-6 in a Tri-County League meeting at Santa Catalina’s pool.

Shields finished with five goals and Austin Gubrud added four for the Mustangs (5-2 overall, 2-1 TCAL). Nick Campilli added a second-quarter goal for GHS, which got 10 saves from Ethan Fortuna.

“We had a lot of scoring opportunities we didn’t cash in on,” coach Tom Clark said. “We’re not taking real strong shots. That’s an area we have to improve. We’re a better team than we showed, but it’s good to get a win.”
