GILROY – Now they wait on Alisal.

After picking up two key Tri-County Athletic League wins this week – 2-1 at Palma on Tuesday and 2-0 against Salinas on Thursday night – the Gilroy High boys soccer team has put themselves in position to capture a league crown.

But first they must get by the Trojans of Alisal today at GHS, a team that has handed the Mustangs two losses already this season.

“We are similar in our style of play,” GHS head coach Armando Padilla said. “It should be a very interesting game.”

If the Mustangs prevail, they would control their own destiny heading into the final game of the season against San Benito.

The Trojans are ranked 7th and the Mustangs 8th in the Central Coast Section, according to the San Jose Mercury News, setting up what looks to be quite a matchup with the Mustangs wanting to enact some revenge for the previous losses and the Trojans inching closer to a title.

Kristian Urias scored twice for the Mustangs last Thursday night, giving him six tallies in the last three games for the Mustangs.

“He is a guy we’ve been waiting on,” Padilla said. “He was battling some injuries.”

Jonathan Diaz De Leon was credited with both goals for the Mustangs in their victory against Palma.

The game versus Alisal is also Senior Night.

“We are calling out to all alumni and soccer fans to head out to the game,” Padilla said.

First kick will be approximately 5:15 p.m.
