Athletic League action Thursday night.
GILROY – The Gilroy High boys volleyball team made quick work of Carmel, defeating the visitors 25-20, 25-7, 25-17 in Tri-Country Athletic League action Thursday night.
Gavin Menges had a game-high 29 assists and three service aces. Robby Filice led the way at the net with five blocks and Albert Chavez had 13 kills.
The win moves the Mustangs (19-9, 13-1 TCAL) one step closer to a league championship with two matches left on the schedule.
All signs point to the May 6 showdown with Monterey (23-7, 13-1 TCAL), who is currently tied with Gilroy for first in the TCAL.
The Mustangs defeated the Toreadors in a heated five-set thriller back on March 30 in Gilroy, setting teh stage for the winner-take-all match.
But first, the Mustangs must get by Alisal on Tuesday.
