Don’s Vending Brakettes win two in a row over Alice Cortez Bail

GILROY – Don’s Vending Brakettes, of Gilroy Little League’s Girls Minors softball division, defeated the Alice Cortez Bail Bonds Thunder Saturday 15-7. The Brakettes were led by home runs by Kailey Eddy and Maddie Cox, and two hits by both Jel Reyes and Maria Sandoval.
“The girls have really worked hard this year and continue to improve in their skills and understanding of the game,” said Brakettes coach George Sandoval. “I’m very proud of their efforts.”
The Thunder received two runs apiece from Davina Garcia and Richelle Aguilar, while Julianna Santiago pitched two scoreless innings.
The Brakette’s most recent victory came a little more than a week after the club topped the Thunder for the first time, 15-3. Cynthia DelReal’s two hits and five RBI led the Brakettes, while Eddy and Maria Sandoval each provided doubles.
Kaitlin Benjamin had the lone hit for the Thunder. Liezi Clark, Emily Fredericks and Yvanna Marin scored the Thunder’s three runs.
In Girls’ Majors action, Torres Construction and DS Builder Riptide split games last week, falling to the Dr. Bas Wafelbakker Sunbirds 9-5 two days after outlasting Dr. Tommy Tong Orthodontics Bandits 3-2.
The Sunbirds scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to defeat the Riptide. Nicole Green and Mackenzie Holt each recorded three hits and scored three runs to lead the Sunbirds into first place.
Lauren Castro tossed three scoreless innings for the Riptide, keeping the game close until the sixth. Alena Anchondo and Brittney Souza each had two hits for the Riptide.
Facing the Bandits, Sol Mendez-Alvarado continued her hot hitting with two hits for the Riptide, and Brianna Barron scored the winning run in the 7th inning.
Holly Lam struck out 17 batters in a complete-game victory.
Ali Robles, Mackenzie Mitchell and Cierra Valdez provided all Bandits hits, and Anna Gamboa pitched four strong innings to keep the game close.
