Morgan Hill – More than 100 marijuana plants were seized from a house just four blocks from the Morgan Hill Police Department Wednesday morning, after a construction worker in the area alerted police the plants were growing in the backyard of the house.
The illegal grow was discovered last week when part of the fence behind the residence on Bisceglia Avenue was knocked down during construction of a housing project on Church Street just south of downtown Morgan Hill.
Police obtained a search warrant and served it at 10am Wednesday and cut down 118 marijuana plants from the backyard.
Each plant is equivalent to about one pound of street product. The estimated street value of these mature plants is about $3,000 per pound, according to police, so the Bisceglia grow could have sold for as much as $354,000.
William Robinson, 44, of Morgan Hill was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana. He was arrested without incident, police said.
There was a female also at the home. She was detained then released.
No children were found in the residence, though there was a room in the home with toys in it that is used for storage. Officers took a dog from the home into protective custody.
A small amount of the confiscated plants will be kept as evidence in the case, but the rest will be destroyed by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, which has a group of officers dedicated to marijuana eradication in the county, according to Morgan Hill police.
