“They have offered me the position. We are negotiating the salary and benefits,” said Brownlow, who has served as the EDC’s interim head since December 2010 – one month after then-president Richard Spitler resigned, saying the EDC lacked necessary funding.
In May, the city approved a two-year budget that bumped the EDC’s yearly funding from $96,000 to $200,000.
Brownlow’s position carries an annual salary of $90,000 to $115,000 and includes paid vacation, holidays and a health insurance allowance, according to a job description on the EDC’s website.
The EDC’s board of directors opened its search July 5, and received eight applications, three of which were from out of state, board chairman Kurt Michielssen said.
The hiring panel is comprised of Michielssen, Pinnacle Bank President Susan Black, Saint Louise Regional Hospital Chief Operating Officer Carol Furgurson, and Articulate Solutions owner Kat Filice.
The EDC is a nonprofit organization that works with the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, the Gilroy Downtown Business Association, the City of Gilroy and local businesses. The EDC president is responsible for planning and facilitating programs that promote economic development in Gilroy, according to the press release.
