Buonfilio R. Gomez passed away in Hollister at the age of 91. He was born in Canadas, Jalisco, Mexico and came to Hollister in 1974. He married his wife, Mercedes, in 1956 in Guadalajara and was well known in Hollister when he was a barber.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, liked walking, watching boxing, liked hunting and was active in politics in his native Mexico. He was active in the senior program at the community center and Jovenes de Antano. He was mayor of his hometown and a judge.
He is survived by his wife, Mercedes Gomez of Hollister, his children and their spouses, Carlos Gomez of Hollister, Gustavo and Glynda Gomez of La Canada, CA, Mario Gomez Loza of Torrance, Justino Gomez of Los Angeles, Maria Dolores Gomez of Belmont, Rocio and Omar Castillo of Belmont and Victor and Anietra Gomez of Hollister. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Miguel Hernandez, Claudia Castillo, Amanda Gomez, Leilani Gomez, Aaliyah Gomez and Aviana Gomez. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Gomez who died in 2007.
Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 9, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Church. Friends can pay their respects at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A procession will leave the funeral home to go to the church for the Mass.
Inurnment services will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. at Calvary Cemetery.
Donations are preferred to Jovenes de Antano in memory of Mr. Gomez.
