A body burned so badly that police couldn’t identify if it was a man or a woman was found beside a burned car near Uvas Reservoir early Friday morning.

While the coroner is working to identify the body through dental records and DNA testing, CalFire is investigating the cause of the fire and few details are available, said Lt. Dahlia Rodriguez with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department.

“We don’t even know if it was a man or a woman,” she said.

The car, a four-door compact, was so badly burned investigators could not immediately identify it’s make or model. No houses were in the vicinity of the burned car and body, Rodriguez said.

“It’s one of those things that could be a suicide,” Rodriguez said, though officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
