Three indicted for illegally producing copyrighted CD’s
San Jose – A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted three Northern California residents on allegations of illegally copying and selling thousands of copyrighted music discs.
The three suspects – Ye Teng Wen, 29 and Hao He, 30, both of Union City, and Yaobin Zhai, 33, of Fremont – were accused of making counterfeit CDs after federal agents seized the molds for hundreds of pirated titles.
“These individuals are charged with affixing counterfeit labels on CDs to create the appearance of legitimacy, including the FBI anti-piracy warning that states ‘Unauthorized copying is punishable under federal law,'” U.S. Attorney Kevin Ryan said.
The three face years in prison if convicted and are scheduled to make an initial appearance in federal court Oct. 27 in San Jose. They were released on bond.
