A 19-year-old Gilroy man was arrested for the attempted robbery
of a cab driver at Eighth and Hanna streets.
Police captured Alex Aguirre Jr., of 8060 Swanston Lane, on the
lawn of a nearby home with a replica pellet gun, drugs, and a
stolen credit card. He is believed to be connected with the armed
robbery of a second livery driver earlier last week.

Gilroy – A 19-year-old Gilroy man was arrested for the attempted robbery of a cab driver at Eighth and Hanna streets.
Police captured Alex Aguirre Jr., of 8060 Swanston Lane, on the lawn of a nearby home with a replica pellet gun, drugs, and a stolen credit card. He is believed to be connected with the armed robbery of a second livery driver earlier last week.
About 7pm Friday, Aguirre stopped a cab and asked the driver to take him to Eighth and Hanna streets where he then demanded money. The driver did not give him any and Aguirre fled the vehicle on foot.
When police found him he was hiding on a nearby lawn and carrying a white powder substance believed to be methamphetamine.
He was identified in a second robbery of a cab driver parked at a local Chevron Stationabout 3:30am, Jan. 11. According to police, Aguirre asked the driver for some change and when the driver rolled down the window, he pointed a black semi-automatic weapon at him, demanded cash, and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.
Aguirre was arrested on a felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, violating probation, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance for sales and possession of drug paraphernalia.
