District 1 Supervisor Mike Wasserman is holding a 2013 Summer Photo Contest inviting participants to submit their snapshots exemplifying why Santa Clara County (District 1) is the No. 1 place to be in the summer.
Those who place in the contest will have their work framed and displayed in Wasserman’s office.
“Grab your camera and show us your favorite images of landscape, farmers’ markets, parades, county parks, neighborhood BBQs, pets and other fun images of summer,” wrote Wasserman via press release.

Photo and photographer eligibility
Anyone may enter a photo in the contest. All ages are welcome. Residency in District 1 is not required. Employees of Santa Clara County are permitted to enter the contest. Photos must be in color and taken in Santa Clara County, District 1 within the last year. If you’re not sure if something is located in District 1, please refer to this District 1 map.
Photo formats
Entries may be digital color images. Black and white images are not eligible. Photos should be no smaller than 450 x 338 pixels but under 2MB in file size. Images should be submitted in JPG (at high quality) or TIFF format. For framing purposes, images should conform to a printed size of 8 x 10. No panoramas please.
Image modifications
Minor digital enhancement is permitted, but images that have been significantly modified or appear unnatural will be disqualified. Images must be in natural color. Black and white, sepia tone, and duotone images are not eligible.
Not permitted
• No borders or frames may be added to images.
• No watermarks, signatures, or copyright notices may be added to images. All winning images will be displayed with the photographer’s name.
• Adding or replacing elements in an image is not permitted.
• Artistic filters are not permitted.
Permitted modifications
• Images may be cropped and rotated as necessary as long as the 8 x 10 rectangular format is maintained and the size is within the specifications above.
• Images may be resized as long as the aspect ratio is maintained.
• Red-eye removal and spot editing.
• One-step enhancement (such as “AutoFix”, “QuickFix”, “Auto Levels”, etc.)
• Use of filters to sharpen, soften, blur, despeckle, or remove noise.
• Use of corrective functions to improve the natural appearance of the image, such as levels, contrast, brightness, curves, intensity, tone, hue, saturation, lightness, value, color balance and tint.
Photographer/copyright
Entries must be submitted by the original photographer. Do not submit a photo taken by someone other than yourself. You must be the sole owner of the copyright of any image submitted. Your submission of the photo is your guarantee that you are the author and copyright holder of the photo.
Number of entries
Only one image may be entered per applicant.
Photo subject restrictions
Photos must be appropriate for posting on a public government website. Obscene, provocative or otherwise questionable content will not be considered.
Ownership/use rights
Photographers retain the copyright to their photographs. By entering the contest, photographers agree to have their submitted photograph displayed on the Santa Clara County District 1 website, newsletter and in the office without any fee or other form of compensation. Applicants agree that winning and non- winning photos may be displayed publicly. Photos will be credited to the photographer who submits the photo. Entries (including non-winning entries) may be selected for display elsewhere. Entries will never be used in any manner for paid advertising or sale.
Judging
Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, photographic quality, and effectiveness in conveying the beauty and/or unique character of Santa Clara County District 1. Entries that fail to comply with the official contest rules will be disqualified.
Winners
Three winning photos will be selected. Winners will be notified approximately two to three weeks after the contest deadline. Winning photographs, along with the photographer’s name, and information about the photo, will be displayed on the Santa Clara County District 1 website. No financial compensation is provided to winners.
