Candice Clifford, GECA
What inspires you? I am inspired by my faith in God. Through my struggles and frustrations, my relationship with God is what helps spark my light and give me spirit.
What is your favorite subject in school, and why? I love everything about English. More specifically, I love writing. When I’ve got an assignment, I make it my job to make people think and/or challenge their beliefs, be it in a free write or a research paper. When I can make others see the world differently, I feel I have done my job.
If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be? If I could change the world, I would decrease the lack of knowledge in today’s society. Most people make decisions without knowing all the facts or without knowing both sides of a situation. A smarter society would make for a stronger country.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go? I would go to either Brazil, to reunite with my coach/best friend who moved one year ago, or Israel, to use the Bible as a map and literally walk where Jesus walked.
Name one big challenge in your life right now: Making sure I sleep enough.
What is your dream job? Writing for Entertainment Weekly and/or being part of ministry at Hume Lake.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things could you not live without? My “Pirates of the Caribbean” blanket, an endless supply of reduced fat Skippy peanut butter and ALL Marvel comic books (because I’d finally have time to read them).
Favorite book: “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak or “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky.
What do you want to do after high school? I’m hoping to get accepted to UCLA where I can major in English and minor in theater arts. I want to learn as much as I can about English and writing and I want to continue being involved with all aspects of theater. L.A. is one of the best places for this. Plus, being in L.A. would allow me to continue my competitive artistic skating career for at least a few more years.
Something that makes you smile: The Marvel Cinematic Universe and French bull terriers.
