DEAR EDITOR:
In Gilroy we have many nice and wonderful things. Our weather and climate is really great all year around. We have good neighbors in a good community, and we are really close to the ocean and the mountains.
However, we have some things that are wrong. We do have a terrible school district administration. The group in the district headquarters and the school board members are terrible and have “screwed up” just about everything they have touched and in my opinion have made a mess out of the schools in this district. They are real lucky that I do not have any kids in school anymore.
Real lucky.
Now after a few years of a couple of good mayors, and a majority of decent city council members, they are kicking the business community right in the face.
When this City Council invites pirate used car dealers to come into the city and run weekend sales on used cars, I again think this is terrible. The Gilroy car dealers have created jobs in our community, they have collected sales tax for the city and paid property taxes to the city, and done a lot of advertising that helped put Gilroy on the map.
I have purchased cars from Gilroy dealers for 29 years, and not once did I ever think that I got a “bum deal.” When I added on to my home and got a building permit from the city, the instructions to me were, “Make sure you hire contractors who have city licenses.” I respect the city employees who are good, work hard and get paid from all kinds of taxes, but believe me I have no respect for the four people on the City Council who decided to do this injustice, and I sure will work hard on the next election to get rid of these people who I consider to be complete idiots.
I hope the business community will do the same, because with people like this on the City Council, you are in trouble along with us who live here.
