Got a college-aged student craving the comforting tastes of home? Casa de Fruta might have the cure for their hankerings. The local retailer started offering a “college crate plan” at the beginning of the month through their online store, casadefruta.com.
“We think students who receive these care crates will be the envy of the dorm,” said Gene Zanger, managing partner of Casa de Fruta.
You can send your dorm-dweller nine monthly gifts of dried fruits, nuts, candy, chocolate-covered fruits and other snacks like banana chips and trail mix for $199 (pro-rated if purchased after September). Each gift comes in a reusable wooden crate and shipping is included in the purchase price.
For special occasions (like finals), the company also offers a Deluxe College Care Package for $49.99. It also comes in a wooden crate, but includes chocolate-covered coffee beans, popcorn, pistachios, dried apricots, golden almond and macadamia-nut caramel corn, peanut brittle, butter toffee peanuts, orange-honey almonds and an energy drink to help with all that late-night party – er – studying.
Don’t try ordering the care packages at the company’s store on Highway 152, though. The crates are only available through their online store.
