Dear Editor,
The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce is a business advocate. We have an agenda, and that agenda is to support the best interests of our local businesses.
Whether an endorsement comes from a teacher’s union, a newspaper’s editorial board, a chamber of commerce, or any other group or organization, it is strictly a recommendation that reflects the interests of that particular group. Very seldom are members (or subscribers) of the organized group or entity contacted to request their individual vote prior to an endorsement being made. The real choice happens when we, as individuals, cast our vote at the ballot box. It is with the hope that every voter studies candidates and issues and does not rely solely on endorsements.
The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce will continue with our advocacy at the local, regional, and state levels to ensure that a business-friendly environment continues so that California has a competitive advantage.
The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is the volunteer leadership for this organization. Each one of these individuals contributes time and energy to fulfill the mission of the chamber: to promote and facilitate economic vitality in the Gilroy community while preserving and enhancing the quality of life.
The membership of the chamber are the ones who elect their board to ensure that this mission is preserved and to represent them at the board level.
Our chairman of the board, Tim Day, has the highest standards of integrity and honesty. He has served the chamber and the community unselfishly, fairly, and with commitment. And he leads the chamber with a clear perspective of our mission.
As we have stated many times, every one of our elected public officials deserve the highest level of respect. They serve with dedication and passion for their constituency. We may not always agree on every issue, but that is not reflective of their leadership.
