Charlotte May Holdaway died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at her Gilroy home.

She was 84.

Mrs. Holdaway was born February 26, 1920 in Richmond, to the late Arthur Fawcett and Nina Knighton.

Her early years were spent in Yolo County until she moved back to Richmond where she met and married Hall Eldred Holdaway on June 25, 1938.

They were later sealed to each other at the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple and became one of the founding families of Harmony Hills, San Juan Bautista.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her family along with her strong faith and activities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also enjoyed sewing, drama and poetry.

Mrs. Holdaway and her husband were owners of Gilroy Ambulance and H & B Electric and she will be remembered by many as the hat lady.

She is the beloved mother of David Holdaway and his wife Anne of Gilroy, Diane Holdaway of Crescent City, Denise Stiers and her husband David of Gilbert, Ariz., Steven Holdaway and his wife Cathy of Aptos, and Michael Holdaway of Los Angeles; grandmother of Dean, Michelle, Tracy, Melinda, Richard, Megan, Christine, Kevin, Charnell, Hilary, Miranda, Seth, Jenae, Lauryn and Justin; 20 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; sister to Betty Kelsey and her husband Harold of Gilroy and Linda Wyman and her husband James of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hall Eldred Holdaway; sister, Erelda Blanche Cruze; and brother, Mervyn Arthur Fawcett.

A service will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7999 Miller Ave., Gilroy beginning with a viewing at 1 p.m. and funeral starting at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park. Habing Family Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
