Although I don’t agree with most of what Dennis Taylor wrote on Oct. 1, I applaud him for writing one of his more cohesive articles. Having said that, I would like to tackle one of his views. He tries to separate conservatives and so-called right-wingers (nice try, Dennis).
I am definitely a conservative on most issues, but whether I am a right-winger I will let Dennis decide. If someone says gay is good, he is considered tolerant. If I say gay is not good, then I am considered bigoted and a right-winger. If someone says abortion is a woman’s choice, he/she is politically correct. If I say abortion is murder, I am considered a zealot. If someone says that swinging ought to be tolerated, they are considered diverse. But if I say it is wrong and does not belong in our neighborhoods, then I am considered intolerant (our mayor ought to know). If I put God down, no big deal. But if I let it be known that I believe the Bible and follow its precepts, I am labeled an intolerant, right-wing Christian.
It might surprise some liberals, who like to put those of us who are on the right into a box, that we don’t all agree on everything. For instance, I am for some gun control. I am for raising the minimum wage. I do not have a strong opinion about Wal-Mart (except I like Target better). I think we should give Iraq to the U.N. to handle (it will never be a democracy). I am not in favor of the tax cut without a corresponding spending cut.
However, thank God there are some right-wingers out there that had the foresight and courage to start the recall petition in California. Come to think of it, there must be an awful lot of right-wingers in California if approximately 56 percent of voters are in favor of the recall (according to the latest polls)! Dennis Taylor, you must be one 0unhappy camper.
