Dear Editor:

California’s children deserve a safe place to go after school to study, hang out, play and just be kids under the supervision of trained and caring adults. That’s why the California Park & Recreation Society supports Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Proposition 49, the initiative that will bring an after-school program to every elementary and middle school in the state.

CPRS believes that recreation, leisure, fitness and play are essential to a child’s healthy development. Recreation provides a vital link in the development of physical, social, creative, emotional and intellectual potential and values. The state’s after-school program provides a healthy balance of academic and enrichment activities to kids at a time when many are without adult supervision or constructive activities. We encourage a “Yes” vote on Prop 49.
