Children Need Discipline, and That Includes a Spanking When Necessary
Dear Editor,
As I am sitting down to read today’s paper, I notice the article that Laurie Sontag has written regarding, “Some people really need a good spanking.”
I find myself wondering how many other parents honestly feel this way. Well let me tell you, I am DEFINITELY one of them. As today’s society becomes more and more afraid to discipline their children for fear of sparking a full-blown debate between family members, friends and the local community, we find ourselves wondering why we have such issues as kids running around tagging buildings, stabbing and shooting innocent bystanders, talking back to parents (let me also add hitting their parents which I have personally seen in our local stores).
How dare Assemblywoman Sally Lieber try to legislate a spanking ban! While I do understand and agree to a certain extent that schools and child care facilities should not be allowed to spank their child, I do not understand nor do I agree with the fact that we as parents should not be allowed to discipline our own children. Parenting is hard enough. If Sally Lieber believes that children should be raised without spanking, then Sally Lieber should become a parent.
Unless you walk a mile in someone’s shoes, don’t have the audacity to try to tell them how to run their lives. Once Sally Lieber and legislation begin to cross the line and bring itself into the privacy of our own homes, then they should be the ones to also suffer the consequences.
Children need discipline. When they don’t have boundaries they get very frustrated and scared, and they act out because they don’t know what to do. They need parents to remind them that what they are doing is unacceptable and not without consequence. Once our hands become completely tied, we will lose all credibility as parents and our children will lose all respect for us as authority figures. Since Sally Lieber has so much experience raising her animals, then she should spend more time working with the Humane Society instead of stirring up controversy in Human Society.

LAFCO Nonsense Simply a Socialist Power Land Grab
Dear Editor,
It is Connie Rogers who “has it all wrong again.” Keep in mind every time this local socialist nuisance bangs her keyboard that this is someone who supported the recent, failed land-grab known as Measure A. Makes you wonder about which “voters” she is writing. Can she explain what was “proven to LAFCO” when they let San Jose annex Monterey Road all the way to Morgan Hill?
I, too, prefer our food to be grown here in America. But private property rights are even more important, and are not to be trumped by whining flatlanders.
