The California Highway Patrol will conduct a DUI sobriety / driver license checkpoint Saturday on Masten Ave at Manna Way weather permitting in conjunction with the Avoid the 13 period. This year the Avoid the 13 period will be from Dec. 17 to Jan. 2.

“Our goal is to have zero alcohol related traffic deaths or injuries in Santa Clara County this Avoid the 13 period,” said Hollister-Gilroy CHP Commander, Captain T. D. Saxon. “We want this checkpoint to serve as a constant reminder that we are actively searching for impaired drivers throughout the Santa Clara and San Benito County communities we serve.”

The CHP wants to ensure safe passage of motorists by targeting roadways where there is a high incidence of driving under the influence. The California Highway Patrol publicizes its efforts in hopes that the publicity will deter motorists from drinking and driving.

During the checkpoint, all vehicles will be checked and drivers who are impaired due to alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency.
