GILROY – A hit and run Monday afternoon turned into a hit and arrest for a Gilroy man.

California Highway Patrol officers booked Everardo Lemus for misdemeanor hit and run after rear-ending another Gilroy driver Theresa Palmer. Lemus unsuccessfully tried to drive away, but was stopped by someone at the scene who made a citizen’s arrest, the CHP said.

The CHP did not have any other details available regarding the arrest.

The accident occurred when Lemus and Palmer were headed toward the Highway 101 southbound on-ramp at Leavesley Road around 4:45 p.m. Monday. There were no injuries to either party and only minor damage to the vehicles was reported.

Since there were no injuries, Lemus was released. He will be cited with a fine and will face a judge “just as if he was given a speeding ticket,” said CHP spokesperson Steve Kinoshita.
